On May 16, 2012, NEC Corporation announced that it had finalized its acquisition of Convergys Corporation's Information Management (IM) business. The US $449M transaction covers all of IM’s business, including the Smart Revenue Solutions, across different verticals including communications, utilities, and logistics.
The IM business and organization are being integrated into NetCracker Technology Corporation, a subsidiary of NEC, and NetCracker is responsible for all business operations of the combined entity.
Convergys’s IM business is recognized for its industry-leading record of delivering Business Support Systems (BSS) transformations to communications service providers around the world. The Convergys IM business generated US$328.8M in 2011, has over 2,400 skilled BSS employees around the world, and counts some of the most innovative MSOs and CSPs among its 150+ customers, including AT&T, British Telecom, Cincinnati Bell, Cox Communications, Deutsche Telekom, Qtel, STC, T Mobile, Time Warner, Telenor, UPC, and Virgin Media.
The acquisition highlights NEC Corporation’s long-standing commitment to offering innovative solutions to the communications industry, enabling service providers to transform their business and successfully compete in a rapidly changing environment. The IM business has enabled global service providers to transform their BSS and create the foundation for next-generation billing, customer-care, and revenue management.
For NetCracker, the acquisition represents a significant expansion into the BSS domain and underscores the company’s commitment to bringing its customers the best of innovation, experience, and infrastructure to address their Revenue Management challenges.
With the acquisition, NetCracker will add key BSS expertise, software, and services to its market-leading Telecom Operations and Management Solutions (TOMS) suite. The combined resources and assets of NEC, NetCracker, and IM — including software, services, data centers, and R&D investment — will create a Telecom software-focused business that is unprecedented in its scale and size. This will give service providers the industry’s most comprehensive set of TOMS solutions and services anywhere in the world. The combination of IM’s BSS products and NetCracker’s TOMS solutions will create a compelling end-to-end portfolio for service providers and other industry verticals and will enable them to take a fresh approach to BSS/OSS — whether they access BSS/OSS solutions through the cloud, as a managed service, or as an on-premise system.
